It belongs to those in the office of elder, both severally and jointly, to watch diligently over the flock committed to his charge, that no corruption of doctrine or of morals enter therein. They must exercise government and discipline, and take oversight not only of the spiritual interests of the particular church, but also the Church generally when called thereunto. They should visit the people at their homes, especially the sick. They should instruct the ignorant, comfort the mourner, nourish and guard the children of the Church. They should set a worthy example to the flock entrusted to their care by their zeal to evangelize the unconverted and make disciples. All those duties which private Christians are bound to discharge by the law of love are especially incumbent upon them by divine vocation, and are to be discharged as official duties. They should pray with and for the people, being careful and diligent in seeking the fruit of the preached Word among the flock. - PCA Book of Church Order 8-3
At a time when "authority" is the last word one wants to hear from a church, we are thankful and filled with gratitude to God for the expression of his sheperding love through the offices of the church. Guarding against a personality-driven ministry, CPC in the Hill hopes to steward the precious gospel so that it - and not personal opinions and whims - would bear upon people's lives. However strange this may sound, we encourage you to discuss with a pastor or elder all the amazing - though fallible - ways that God's grace is preserved through church government.
In 2011, the Session established a Women's Leader Board to serve the CPC community. The summary of the Session's charge to the WLB frames their role in the life of CPC:
"In general, all those duties which private Christians are bound to discharge by the law of love are especially incumbent upon WLB by way of a godly example. It also belongs to the WLB to assist the elders and pastors in making disciples of Christ through active involvement in life on life discipleship of women at CPC together with being responsible for the planning and execution of organized activities for women as needed. They should pray with and for the women of the church, being careful and diligent in seeking the fruit of the preached Word among the flock."
